studio practice 2b – improved proposal

Studio Practice 2b:

 

Introduction:

 

The subject I am exploring within this brief is people; I am going to explore the issues surrounding personal appearance and how it affects life. For example: work and social life.

I will be looking at all expects of the persons appearance such as their race, religion, ethnicity, gender, age ect. And also aspects of their personal choice of appearance, tattoos, piercings, hair colour and so on.

Research Requirements:

 

Throughout this project I will be researching many things, I will be looking at the political aspects of peoples appearance and how it affects life. I will look at if any photographers have done something similar for influences and inspiration.

Not only will I look at the political side and photographers, but I will also research into any publications and galleries that have shown similar work or who could be interested.

 

Production methods/Presentation:

 

I will be photographing this brief on digital, using colour photography. I believe colour will be an important part of this project, due to me photographing people’s appearance choices, so colour will be a big part.

I will consider both studio and location for my work, if I decide location I believe I will take some aspects of the studio lighting to the location.

 

 

Target Audience:

 

I believe people who would be interested within this work are people who are interested within these matters, if they are somehow linked personally. These are the people that I wish to target within my work, but I would also like to see this work in either exhibition or magazine publication, as I believe targeting the correct magazines/ galleries could help get the message I am trying to convey across successfully.

studio practice 2b – initial idea.

What have i done?

Testing out my initial idea. I begun to do tests of how i could photograph my initial idea, i decided to photograph the person in a background in relation to their personality. This one was in a bedroom set-up, with music posters in the background to show the persons musical interests.

What have i got from it?

I believe this testing was successful, the outcome of the images technically and aesthetically come across well. Although i believe in future photo shoots i will be focusing more on the persons appearance, rather than any background relations.

Whats next?

Next is to continue to take images, developing my initial idea.

techniques and processes 2b – colourspace

what have i done?

Today we have looked at the differences between the colour spaces of SRGB and adobe RGB. To see the differences of the colour space in camera, we shot one image in SRGB, then changed the settings to adobe RGB.

We looked at which colour space is more appropriate for web and which is more appropriate for print.

what have i got from it?

Now i understand the differences between the two colour spaces, i understand that SRGB is more appropriate for web and that is what web is based on, i also understand that adobe RGB has a wider gamut, meaning it has a higher colour spectrum.

whats next?

Next before shooting my images i will consider which colour space to work on, this will depend on whether i am shooting for web, print or both.

studio practice and techniques and processes

Unfortunately due to an error with my memory card I have been unable to print contact sheets out for the last shoot for both my studio practice and my techniques and processes. I have also lost images from another slow shutter speed  and painting with light revisit for techniques and processes, one of the images can be found in my finals.

But Before loosing my images, I have posted the images within blog posts on both techniques and processes and studio practice, which both have a few images from the shoots. This giving an idea of what my shoots will have been like overall.

I have also managed to get my final images printed as well.

So within both my folders a shoot will be missing in each, but fortunately I have a selection of the images on my blog and some of the images are in my finals.

Best practice

For both my techniques and processes and studio practice i have selected a few images for best practice.

The images which i have selected for both i believe are very successful images, but they do not fit the briefs which i stated. The images have come from tasks which i have participated in within lessons, and also from tasks which i have set myself to improve my skills.

studio practice 2a- demi

What have i done ?

This is my fifth shoot i have done for this brief.

Within this photo shoot, I have used a different location, due to the other one being un accessible, but i still went for either a neutral background or similar to the models favourite colour.

Also I photographed myself, this due to availability with other models.

What have i got from it?

From this shoot I believe i have got some successful images, but overall i think it hasn’t been as successful as my other ones.  I still believe I have got some good images to work with, I believe I have kept consistent with the composition with all my shoots.

Whats next?

Next is to look back through all my photo shoots, and begin to start selecting my most successful ready for editing and maybe finals.

techniques and processes 2a- third shoot.

What have i done?

My aim for this photo shoot was to develop onwards from my previous one.

I have used the same location, as i wanted to improve on the lighting from my previous photo shoot, and i believed it would be best to do this by using the same style of lighting.

What have i got from it?

I believe i have been much more successful within this photo shoot, the lighting is much better and I believe it has more of a focus from which i stated in my brief.

Whats next?

Next is to look through my images, and go through selecting which i fell are the best and could maybe go towards finals.

slow shutters revisited

What have i done?

After my set task using slow shutter speeds, I decided to look at the technique again to try get a better understanding of how to use it.

As i was using an object that changed its lighting colour, I wanted to try capture the change.

What have i done from it?

A better understanding of how to use slow shutters with lighting ,I managed to be successful in capturing  a slight change in the colour of the lighting.

Whats next?

Next i will take what i have learnt from this exercise and put it into practice within my photo shoots for my project brief.
